Meaning only the rooms
كل واحد عنده الغرف ماله
Everyone has their own rooms
الحوش والسطح كله مشترك
The courtyard and the roof are all shared
بالصيف نطلع ننام هون
In the summer we go up to sleep here
هذا بيت تبعي أنا على السطح
This is my house, me on the roof
وهذا عربي هون على السطح قبالي
And this Arab here on the roof opposite me
كلنا مكشوفين سوا
We are all out in the open together
واحد مأمن بالآخر
One trusting the other
تأمني يعني خذي تأمني
Trusting, meaning feel secure
لما كنت بالشرطة بشتغل
When I was working in the police
أجي بالليل عندي تخت
I come at night, I have a bed
كلنا نناموا على السطح على الأرض
We all sleep on the roof on the ground
على دوشك فرشة حصير
On a mattress, a bedding, a straw mat
أنا كان عندي تخت هون
I had a bed here
والجار مسلم هون كان عنده بنت
And the Muslim neighbor here had a daughter
عمرها واحد وعشرين سنة
She was twenty-one years old
أنا أنام هون بالمغرب أجي أتشطح
I sleep here, at sunset I come to lie down
تجي البنت هذي وتقعد على جنبي
This girl comes and sits by my side
أما أبوها الست تبعها بيشوفونا
While her father and her grandmother see us
مأمنين واحد باللخ
Trusting one another
ما يقولون إبراهيم دير بالك على بنتنا
They wouldn't say, "Ibrahim, watch out for our daughter"
كنت أقول لهم هذي أختي
I used to tell them, "This is my sister"
يعني ما في فرق بيناتنا
Meaning there is no difference between us
أنا مهم عندي أن الناس يعرفون
It is important to me that people know
مثل أهلك مثل أحفادك
Like your family, like your grandchildren
يعرفون شلون كانوا يعيشون
They know how they used to live
العيشة ما كانت هي هي فوق
Life wasn't the same up there
كانت عيشة بسيطة وفي أمان
It was a simple life and in safety
عندك مكرر بداخل الحيط
You have a niche inside the wall

This one, you put a shelf in it
